Colombian playmaker Giovanni Moreno returned to training with his club side Racing of Argentina on Thursday, six months after rupturing ligaments in his left knee.
Moreno picked up the injury against All Boys in Racing’s Clausura opener back in February, missing the entirety of the tournament as well as Colombia’s Copa America campaign. As I noted in my analysis of Colombia’s Copa America, a creative presence in midfield, such as Moreno, could have helped them unlock defences they were otherwise unable to.
The 25-year old took part in a small sided match with other players recovering from injury and some academy players and performed a couple of his trademark through balls despite looking a little tentative, which can only be expected following so long on the sidelines.
No official date has been set for Moreno’s return to the first team fold, although there are suggestions he could be back in action in time for their home match against Olimpo on the 10th September.
For the sake of Racing and the Colombian national team, that date can’t come soon enough.
