The midweek fixtures that made up the seventh round of fixtures in the second stage of the Ecuadorian Serie A championship were a fairly low scoring bunch with few surprises.
LDU Quito extended their unbeaten run at home to Barcelona to 35 games with a 0-0 draw, allowing Deportivo Quito to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points with a 1-0 win away to Independiente Jose Teran. Deportivo have now won all seven of their matches in the second stage and are yet to concede a goal in the process.
Juan Ramon Carrasco’s tactical tinkering had the desired effect as Emelec awoke from their recent slumber to thump Espoli 4-0 and move up to the sixth in the table thanks to second half strikes from Nicolas Vigneri, Marcos Caicedo, Jose Franco and an own goal from Espoli’s Jonathan Cobo.
Olmedo moved level with second placed LDU Quito following a 1-0 win over LDU Loja, El Nacional defeated Manta 1-0 and finally Imbabura also won 1-0, at home to Deportivo Cuenca.
