The search for a permanent successor to Hernan Dario Gomez goes on following Gerardo Martino’s rejection of the terms offered by the Colombian Football Federation but the national team still has friendly dates to honour, starting with matches against Honduras and Jamaica early in September.
Colombia will face Honduras on the 3rd September at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey before squaring off against the Jamaicans at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale three days later.
Dario Gomez’s former assistant Leonel Alvarez will take charge for the two friendlies, giving him an opportunity to prove his worth, assuming the Football Federation haven’t appointed someone else in the role in the meantime.
The 18-man squad for the friendlies has few surprises. Tolima midfielder Cristian Marrugo is the only player who didn’t go to the 2011 Copa America, while only Abel Aguilar is missing from Colombia’s usual starting eleven in that tournament.
