Deportivo Quito continued their astonishing early season form with a 1-0 win over Olmedo for their eighth consecutive victory. Carlos Ischia’s side are also yet to concede a goal.

Argentine striker Julio Bevacqua scored the only goal goal of the game with an 11th minute penalty after he himself had been felled inside the area. Bevacqua has now scored 19 goals in 26 appearances in 2011.

Barcelona’s recent run of good results continued with a 1-0 win at home to Manta, although Luis Zubeldia’s men had to wait into second half injury time to score the winning goal – Matias Oyola’s inswinging freekick evading everyone, including Manta’s goalkeeper Francisco Caicedo Bravo, to nestle in the far corner. Barcelona are now second, albeit nine points shy of Deportivo Quito.

Barcelona’s Guayaquil neighbours Emelec recorded their second consecutive victory with a 2-0 away win over LDU Loja to move up into third. Enner Valencia and Jose Franco got the goals.

In the weekend’s other matches, Deportivo Cuenca beat LDU Quito 2-1, El Nacional drew 2-2 with Independiente, and Espoli defeated Imbabura 2-1.
