New Colombia coach Leonel Alvarez has confirmed his 23-man squad who will face Bolivia in La Paz in the second round of 2014 World Cup qualification on October 11th.
U-20 star James Rodriguez and Atletico Nacional’s Dorlan Pabon are two of the notable additions to the squad Colombia took to this summer’s Copa America, while Racing Club playmaker Giovanni Moreno returns to the squad after recovering from the cruciate ligament injury that saw him miss that tournament.
Deportivo Pereira goalkeeper Robinson ‘Rufay’ Zapata is given a surprise return to the international fold, while Juan David Valencia of Junior, Cristian Marrugo of Deportes Tolima and USA-based Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Chara also brought into the squad.
With Brazil qualified as hosts, there are only nine teams competing for four automatic places at the World Cup and thus one team misses out each round of fixtures. Colombia are the first to do so, and thus Alvarez will have additional time with his squad to prepare for the altitude of La Paz. His charges will convene in Bogota on Monday.
