It was a mixed bag of results for the teams from Andean nations involved in Copa Sudamerican action this week, with a couple of wins, a couple of defeats and one draw.
Barcelona and El Nacional were always the traditional powerhouses of Ecuadorian football. One in Guayaquil, one in Quito, the clashes between the two sides often went a long way to deciding the fate of the league championship.
But then a new power emerged.
The last couple of days have seen three Andean sides in action in the Copa Sudamericana – a loose Europa League equivalent – with tonight’s match between La Equidad of Colombia and Peru’s Juan Aurich concluding matters for the week.
